Cooperative Care Grooming Lessons for Pet Owners

Having a dog who has grooming needs that are difficult to meet due to behavior can be disheartening.

Whether you’ve had difficulty grooming them at home or they have a hard time at grooming salons, it’s a challenging situation to be in. I’ve helped train hundreds of dogs to be comfortable for the grooming process in my salon as a groomer - even my own puppy (pictured) struggled for baths and drying. Using cooperative care methods, she was still able to get the grooming care that she needed without stress or escalation. Now she runs to me when she sees the brush and begs for “pamper time”!

The methods we use work with all dogs - regardless of upbringing, age, socialization, and genetics. There are some limitations for medical issues, hidden pain or severe behavior, but if that’s the case, we will help guide you to a medical or training professional who can help you.

Cloud Groom & Train uses modern, science based techniques to help dogs become more comfortable with grooming, without pain, stress or escalation. We look at the whole picture, health, environment and experiences, to improve welfare and be mindful of the dogs physical and mental health while working together.

Here’s how we move through that process.

  • We’ll talk about talk about what your dog is having a hard time with in grooming, note relevant history like age, health and any medications they’re on. This will give us a better idea of what plan will work best for you, your dog and your lifestyle.

  • Next, we’ll get into more details about what behaviors and feelings your dog has around grooming. This helps us monitor and make sure we’re seeing progress and improvment with the plan we decide on together.

  • Being able to watch videos of dogs helps to see what’s really going on. I’ll be able to take a look at what’s happening and relay what we’re seeing in a way that makes sense. You’ll get a deeper understanding and closer look at what’s happening, and what we can do about it!

  • After our consultation you’ll have some more insight on the problem. We’ll come up with a plan that works for you and your dog and make some goals. When we have follow up sessions, we’ll talk about video footage you took during the week and make adjustments to our plan as needed.

Help your dog without pain or frustration.

Get dogs care they need

We can help you identify the care your dog needs and who can help. All without sacrificing other areas of their welfare

Create spaces where dogs feel safe

Dogs deserve to have agency in their care. Making sure they feel safe reduces stress and lets us get their grooming needs done.

Take a closer look at why certain behavior is happening

All behavior has a function. Being able to see why your dog is reacting a certain way helps us understand how we can help them.

Build trust and deeper connections with our dogs

Forcing your dog through things they find scary breaks trust. Knowing how to listen to your dog when they are communicating with behavior creates a mutual understanding and trust.

Mini Sessions

If you aren’t sure which option is best for you, have a specific behavioral concern, need an in-between follow up or if your dog has a major or many medical concerns this is a good place to start. Some more complex cases may require a referral out to another pet professional to assess health before we can get started on training.

Mini session fees can be applied to the consult price if we decide to move forward and you do not need a referral. For example, if you paid $60 for a mini and we schedule a consult, the consult would be $140 instead of $200.

Investment

$60/half hour with the option to apply to a full consult fee
